Vineyard Notes
2011 was another cool growing season. December was very wet, with January very dry and warm. La Niña brought more late-winter rains and spring showers through the end of June. The rainfall total for 2011 concluded at 125% of normal. Two weeks of summer heat at the end of September led to the harvest of Malbec, the first grapes picked from Mount Veeder on October 3rd. With an impending rain event, our vineyard crew worked to open up the canopy with leaf removal for air flow and sun exposure in early October. For the last three weeks of October, the skies cleared and the sun came out for a fantastic long stretch of dry weather. The rain and cool weather of early October paused ripening, and the Indian summer got maturation rolling again. The Cabernet Sauvignon harvest on Mt. Veeder began on our Rosenquist ranch on October 13th. The last Mount Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon was picked on November 2nd off of our North Ranch.
Winemaker Notes
Our Mount Veeder estate is made up of three distinct parcels of exquisite vineyards: The Winery Ranch, North Ranch and Rosenquist. Set amidst the vines on the North Ranch is a viewing platform. Elevation 1550 takes its name from the altitude of that spot, where a soaring eastward view overlooks ribbons of vines draping the hillsides, with Napa Valley far below.

Grown on these steep, terraced slopes high above the valley floor, Elevation 1550 is a Cabernet Sauvignon blend sourced from the best blocks from all three ranches. The wine is limited production, made big and bold in the tradition of Mount Veeder, and a unique expression of the mountain.
