Rugged mountain conditions produce grapes with intensely concentrated fruit and big, rich tannins. Taming these tannins and preserving flavor are the high-altitude winemaker's biggest challenge. Because Mount Veeder's growing season starts late and often stretches well into November, harvest is a waiting game. But patience is rewarded with fully-developed flavors and ripe, rich tannins in the skins and seeds.
Crafted from small lots of exceptionally concentrated fruit from our three ranches, this distinctive red wine is the essence of power and finesse.
Sweet blackberry, licorice, and dried cherries, waft out of the glass with hints of violets, and tobacco following. Touches of sage, marjoram, and peppercorn add additional layers of complexity to this wine.
Next vintage coming in 2015.
Deep garnet in color with vibrant layers of brambly dark berry, cassis, bay and mocha aromas. Rich and concentrated with flavors of blackberry, dark cherry, chocolate and cassis. Good structure and well-balanced, with fine-grained tannins and a long finish of cassis and sweet vanilla notes.
Dark and dense aromas of cassis, and ripe black cherry, intermingle with notes of coca nibs and cardamom. Hints of leather and bay waft out of the glass.
Rich and full-bodied. Notes of coffee, plum and vanilla fill the mouth that lead to ripe and supple tannins on the lengthy finish
Balanced and mouthfilling, this wine is bursting with flavors of forest berries, cassis, and rich baking spices. Subtle layers of bay, sweet herbs, violets, and black peppercorn meld with the supple and broad tannins that linger on the finish.
